Separation

A legal separation does not put an end to the marriage. It does outline the rights and responsibilities of each spouse while they are living apart.  A legal separation should protect your interests until the decision is made to file for divorce. You should consult an attorney who specializes in family law issues to help you draft your separation agreement to be sure that you are protected as a separation agreement may set a precedence for the divorce that may follow.
